A start-up called Vertical Harvest, located in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, recently built a three-story greenhouse. It is efficient, sustainable and provides jobs to developmentally disabled residents, along with fresh produce to the restaurants and grocery stores in the town of Jackson.
The 13,500 sq. ft. hydroponic greenhouse was built on a small 1/10 of an acre vacant lot in the middle of Jackson and the vertical farm will extend Jackson’s short growing season of 4 months to all year long.
The greenhouse will be filled with crops like microgreens and heirloom tomatoes. In the spring, the greenhouse will be able to grow over 37,000 pounds of greens, 4,400 pounds of herbs, and 44,000 pounds of tomatoes.
