Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) . . .
Q. I used one of the calculators to calculate the setting on my injector and the result was a setting that is not available on my injector. What can I do? A. There are a few alternatives. You may be able to change your stock solution to get a setting that is in the range of your injector. You may be able to change to a similar chemical that will work with your injector. You may need to use a different injector specifically for that chemical application. Please call us at 800 523-8499 for assistance. Q. What is PPM and how is it different from the setting on my injector? A. PPM = Parts Per Million. This is the actual concentration of chemical in the output from the injector. 1 PPM means 1 part chemical for every 1,000,000 parts of water. The Ratio Setting on the Injector = The rate at which the stock solution is added to the water flowing through the injector. It is the combination of A) the concentration of chemical in the stock solution and B) the Ratio Seting on the Injector, that determines the PPM in the output from the injector. As an example: A stock solution is created by mixing 13.35 ounces of a 20 % Nitrogen fertilizer to a gallon of water and a final output of 200 PPM is obtained by setting the injector at 1:100. The one gallon of stock solution (13.35 ounces of 20% Nitrogen Fertilizer added to a gallon of water) will be injected at 1 ounce for every 100 ounces of water flowing through the injector (This is NOT PPM) The resulting output from the injector will contain 200 PPM of Nitrogen (200 Parts of Nitrogen for every 1,000,000 parts of water - This is NOT THE INJECTOR SETTING) Q. I followed the results from the calculators, but when I tested the PPM at the point of application, it did not match. How could this happen? A. The most common reasons can be; Need for routine maintenance on the injector (worn seals and parts affect accuracy), Additional chemicals in the water that are interacting with the measured chemical - changing its concentration, Was the stock solution mixed correctly?, Did all of the chemical disolve in the stock solution? (Check maximum solubility), also verify the setting on injector. Have a question that is not on this page? Call us at 800 523-8499 |
